Travel Tips While Pregnant
(These are the journals from my 1st pregnancy.)
Next week I get to go home to Hawaii to see my mom. I’m so excited! I know it's special for her to see me pregnant, and she has so much wisdom to share. It will be a long flight from Denver, so I'm planning with extra care.
Recently, I read about a plane that was stuck on the tarmac for 12 hours before taking off. How awful for those people! I'll pack an extra bottle of water and snacks, just in case, but I pray that everything will go smoothly on my journey home.
• Healthy snacks for a long flight, such as carrots, cucumber slices, celery sticks, dry roasted almonds, cashews and chicken wraps. Put in a small, soft cooler with an ice pack.
• Wear loose, comfortable clothing and easy-to-slip-off-and-on shoes.
• Bring a good book and personal journal for writing.
• Possibly bring an iPod to make the time pass peacefully.
• Bring an extra bottle of water.
• Please add more to the list......

Back pain, neck pain and no sleep!!!
(These are the journals from my 1st pregnancy.)
The weather is finally getting better! I'm such a Kona girl at heart; I just hate the snow and cold. I'm getting outdoors a lot more now, and I'm loving the fresh air. I feel so much healthier when I'm in the sun a little. I can't wait for summer!
This little one has been kicking more lately, which wakes me up. But what's more difficult is that my neck and back have been bothering me. I wake up around 3:00 or 4:00 in the morning, and then I can't fall back asleep for hours. I know this is the beginning of the end for getting eight hours of uninterrupted rest. I can't help but feel like this is God's way of getting me ready for those nighttime feedings.
Not every day is easy-but I'm officially halfway there-and that counts for something!

Screening For Down's Syndrome? Did you??
(These are the journals from my 1st pregnancy.)
I heard a tragic story today. One of my friends has a friend who was expecting a baby, and tests indicated that her baby had Down's syndrome. Her husband wanted to terminate the pregnancy; of course, the mother did not. This caused such a conflict between them that they ended up getting divorced. The woman went on to have the baby by herself, and the baby was born perfectly, 100 percent normal. How sad. The false results of the test really messed up their lives.
I'm thankful that Dan and I were in agreement and prayed together when we got our "Big Scare". If I have another baby, I'll never do that blood test again. The stress it put on my body was awful and, in the end, it provided no benefit.
Please don't take my journal entries the wrong way. Every pregnancy is different. Your body is unique, and each baby develops at a different pace. I would never presume to tell another mom-to-be whether or not she should take a certain test; that's between you, your doctor and God. So pray about it and make the choice that's right for you.

Co Sleeping or Crib???
(My private journals from my 1st pregnancy.)
We found a crib and changing table at a sale for cheap. I know we probably won't use the crib right away, because I'm going to nurse the baby, and I want him (I still think it's a boy) right close to me and at arm's reach. I don't want to have to get out of bed multiple times a night to feed him. My mom kept us in bed with her, and I'm going to follow her tradition. I think it makes for a happier baby. Just my opinion, and I know it's not for everyone.
This little one has been kicking a lot, directly under my right breast; he must have a foot or hand that keeps pushing on my rib all day long. I have to use my hand to physically move it away, because sometimes it really hurts.

Decorating the Baby Room!
(My private journals from my 1st pregnancy.)
My little one must really be growing, because my appetite has increased! Sometimes I don't feel pregnant, but I know I am, and I think about it constantly, pretty much 24/7. It's hard to concentrate on anything else. All I've been doing is dreaming about meeting my little baby. These nine months are going by really slow!
We started on the baby's room this week, which was a lot of fun. I'm painting a jungle/animal theme all around the room, and my girlfriends are going to help. I found this super cute bedding set, and we're going to copy and enlarge the animals onto the walls. Because we don't know if the baby is going to be a boy or girl, this should work either way. I can't wait to see the room when it's done. I hope this baby likes jungle animals!

The Honeymoon Phase
(My private journals from my 1st pregnancy.)
I know why they call the second trimester the honeymoon period of pregnancy. I feel so much better now. I can pretty much eat like normal, and I have my energy back and can almost work out like I used to. Thank You, Lord, for getting me over the hump. There were days when I thought I'd never feel the same.
Dan and I have been doing the spring-cleaning, and he's amazed at the energy I have this week. We have a list of things we want to get done to the house before the baby comes, including fixing up the lower level (or finishing our basement). We're going to put a workout room down there, so it will be convenient for me to work out and train clients with the baby nearby. I'm really looking forward to that.

Surround Yourself With Positive People!
(My private journals from my 1st pregnancy.)
I'm so excited! I'm in my second trimester now, and I'm also feeling better. I started taking exercise classes this week; and even though I've taught exercise for years, it's different being a student. I don’t have to think about which moves are coming next-I just follow along. And the instructor is great! She was very encouraging about the baby. I'm finding that it is really important to surround myself with supportive, happy, encouraging people.
My mom and I had a good talk on the phone today. I asked her if it was easier raising boys or girls, and she said, "Raising boys and girls is just different, but one isn’t harder than the other." That's good to know.

Super Mom or Okay Mom??
(My private journals from my 1st pregnancy.)
It’s been a hard week. I’ve felt exhausted; and on top of that, Micah has been a handful. I wish I could play with him like I used to, but I just don’t have the energy. I want to be Super-Mom; but right now, I’ll settle for Okay-Mom.
Yesterday, Micah and I were going to the store when a driver cut us off in traffic, nearly colliding with us. It was scary, because I’ve got my son and my unborn baby to protect, as well as myself. That incident really tried my patience!
Lord, please give me the endurance, strength and wisdom I need this week. Help me to overcome the temptation to speak angry words when I’m tired and upset, and to speak peace instead.

Cravings During Pregnancy???
(My private journals from my 1st pregnancy.)
Food has always been a sensitive issue for me since I’m limited On what I can eat due to allergies. I also maintain a healthy eating lifestyle, but during this pregnancy, I’ve splurged a little. Once in a while is okay for mom and baby. This week I’ve been craving lots of bread and pasta. It’s really funny, because I was driving past Macaroni Grill the other day, one of our favorite restaurants, and I had never gone in to eat there by myself, but then I thought, why not? I sat down and the nice waiter brought me a warm loaf of their yummy bread with olive oil and a tall glass of water. My feast began. I ordered a house salad and a dish of angel hair pasta with the meat sauce. I NEVER order pasta, and I rarely eat red meat! But it was so-o-o good! I called Dan to tell him where I was, and I think he got a little jealous.
